The Bible only considers the case of a man divorcing a woman, not the other way around, which apparently was unthinkable. God was certainly not in favor of it, except ('of course') if the woman had committed adultery. The various Bible books almost exclusively deal with female adultery; male adultery was not seen as a solid ground for divorce. As to the prohibition for men to do away with their wives: you have to remember that in the Biblical days a woman was totally dependent on her husband for sustenance and safety, so divorcing her - with alimony a thing of the far future - was like sending her out in the wilderness while dishonoring her family. If we look at the relevant Bible texts, God had generally speaking no problem with remarriage. It was the Catholic Church itself in 1184 AD that pronounced marriage a 'sacrament' and forbade remarriage in church and so, in front of God.

Pope Francis today has much more liberal views and recently even officiated at a church wedding ceremony of several couples in Rome, a number of them having been married before. But a Pope's personal convictions and the changing of a 1,000 year old Church law are two different things.
