This could mean a lot of things. To me it meant loving my best friend (dw he was a boy :P) and I knew he wouldn't love me back. I didn't want to break that trust though. It was misplaced affection, and it DID lead to disappointment. Hope this helps.

If this is literally constant affection, then it counts as an obsession. Is the affection enforced on you? If yes, it's abuse. Affection is one thing - and compulsive acts (the outcome of obsession) an entirely different issue. Why is a misplaced modifier a problem in a sentence?

A misplaced modifier can create confusion or ambiguity in a sentence by making it unclear which word or phrase the modifier is intended to describe. This can lead to misinterpretation of the intended meaning, as the reader may associate the modifier with the wrong subject or action. For example, saying "She almost drove her kids to school every day" suggests she didn't quite manage it, while "She drove her kids to school almost every day" conveys a different frequency. Clarity in writing is essential for effective communication, and misplaced modifiers undermine that clarity.
