and
... bf says he "adores you" just for fun.
That changes the meaning considerably, with the second case being more flattering than the first.
However, as a general rule for women: when a man says something, generally either he means exactly what he said, or he's lying but wants you to THINK he means exactly what he said. We're not complex; we very seldom say A when what we really want you to understand is B. So don't spend a lot of time and effort worrying about what he wants you to think, spend it trying to determine if he's telling the truth or not.
