If you have given him a reason to not trust you, that could be why he says that. In that situation, it will take time for him to see that he trust you again. If you haven't done anything that would make him think he cannot trust you just reassure him that he CAN trust you, then prove it. There are many different reasons why people find it difficult to trust these days. The only thing that I know of to do is to prove, over time, that you are trustworthy. If you have not given him any reason not to trust you, it could be from other things in his life that he has experienced such as others betraying him. If that is the case, just be patient, let him know that you would never do anything to hurt him, and let time pass so he can see for himself that you are trustworthy.
