What does the bible say about forgiveness?

The Bible say a lot about forgiveness. Jesus died on the cross to saved our sinful lives just so we could be forever forgiven. But that does not mean we can do bad things. We have to try and improve our lives still.

John:3:11-18:

11: Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.

12: If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?

13: And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

It's suppose to be very important. We are suppose to forgive people endlessly. No matter what they do. However it is not always like that, since we are humans and we sin. We have trouble with forgiveness. But just because you forgave someone, doesn't mean you have to hang around them. Do what is best for you.

It is important for Christians to freely forgive one another in order for God to freely forgive them. Jesus, during the model prayer he gave to his followers, found in Matthew chapter 6 made a point of this topic. In verses 12, 14-15 of this chapter Jesus said that we should pray to Jehovah God to, "'forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors....For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; whereas if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.'" Therefore, based off of this scripture, we see that it is very important for us imperfect humans to develop the ability to freely forgive one another, so that we can ultimately be forgiven of our sins and short comings by our Heavenly Father, Jehovah God.

God has forgiven us of our sins. When we ask for forgiveness, he casts our sins in the sea of forgetfulness. Matthew 6:14-14 says, "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." He also says we are to love our neighbor as ourself. We would want to be forgiven. We need to love the unlovable and reach out to the unreachable. We have that power through Jesus Christ. Forgiveness can be very challenging at times, but it's so important!

When the first man and woman disobeyed God their fellowship with God was broken, this is sin. God made a way for them to make atonement for their sin and maintain their fellowship with Him in spite of the fact the man and the woman (and their children) continued to sin. This was by offering an animal as a sacrifice.

Later in the history of mankind God chose the nation of Israel to be an example of a godly nation and God gave a set of laws and a sacrificial system to Israel so they when they failed to keep Gods moral laws they could make atonement for their sins. But Israel turned away from God and turned God's law and sacrificial system into religion.

When the time was right God came to earth as the man Jesus Christ. Jesus was the 'lamb of God'; he was a sacrifice, an atonement for sin, for all sin, for all people. One day God will judge everybody's sin to escape this judgment a person must believe Jesus died in their place.
