Probably the most used and tired expressions used would have to be "Its not you, its me". Its supposed to leave the other person feeling good about themselves even if they have just been dumped but along the way its come to lack sincerity as people use it instead of telling the truth.
Respecting her decision to separate when she says it's over should always be your first step. You should agree with her that you need time apart. Don't go overboard and tell her that you think it's a great idea. Just tell her that some distance would be good for you both and you'll use the time to think. That one statement alone will do wonders when it comes to getting her back. Whenever a man says he needs to think, the woman in his life starts to imagine what it's about. If you seem in control and fine with the break up, it's going to eat at your ex.
Remember relationship is shared by two people to make it last. If only one person is eager to cling on then, I think, you should start moving on.

Tell your male friend to do his own dirty work. He is a big boy and can tell your other friend what he wants and how he wants it done. You do not want to be in the middle.
That simply means she likes your company and wants to be your friend and has no interest for anything more.
