What is the difference between a lover and a best friend?

A FRIEND is someone who you know well enough to talk to and make plans with, and obviously someone you enjoy spending time with. However, a friend is not someone you trust with your most guarded secrets. Your family doesn't know this person incredibly well (on a personal level). A friend is someone who you maybe wish you knew better-- there are always things you can learn about them. Sometimes it might be awkward (not generally), but you have a good time together.

A BEST FRIEND is a person who you think of more as a sibling than a friend. They feel like family (not only to you, but to your immediate--and maybe even extended family as well). You talk to them about e v e r y t h i n g . You relate to them much more than you do to a normal friend and know that they won't tell your secrets to anyone. You are such good friends that you don't even have to think about what he/she thinks of you cause you guys are such good friends that it doesn't really matter. You will be friends n o m a t t e r w h a t. Sometimes you may drift apart (i.e. new friends -- like freshman year when in many schools, lots of new kids come in). But if you drift apart, the way to tell that this person is your friend is, you find yourself constantly comparing your new friends to this person (your bff). You two are p e r f e c t m a t c h e s.

Not really sure if everyone will agree... but I basically think it depends on who you are, because there are lots of ways to define friends and best friends. Still, most people that I know of think that a best friend is someone that you're really close to and would tell every secret and hang out together all the time. While the friend is just someone you like a lot, or a little... that supports you or that you support, not as much as your best friend, maybe... but perhaps you both like eachother a lot but don't hang out together that much.

heres the dealio, always go for friends with benefits.

friends means ur not gettin nothin, lovers means u actually have to care for the person, but friends with benefits is the best of both worlds...if ya catch my drift

A 'friend with benefits' is more a friend you can 'have sex with', (without it becoming an emotional attachment sexually,) as opposed to a lover, whom should be both friend and something more intimate.

A lover (sexual) is a conditional relationship, where a best friend (Platonic) is, or should be an unconditional relationship.
