The lion (Panthera leo) is an apex predator, and lies at the top of the food chain. Therefore, it has no natural predators. However, humans have been known to hunt the lion for sport or as poachers. This practice has since become illegal however due to the risk of extinction. Lions themselves prey on large animals such as wildebeests, impalas, and zebras.
