A child does not have the emotional or mental capability to deal with abuse in a healthy way so they file it wherever they can to survive. Many times it comes out as anger or withdrawal from relationships, depending on the particular personality of the one who is abused.
It can create a filter, if you will, by which the person sees situations and/or circumstances in life as proof of their powerlessness. They seek sympathy, and when they receive it, this enables them to remain in the victim mentality. A person in this mindset will eventually begin to sabotage their own success and happiness, believing it will always turn out badly for them so why try. They tend to give up just too easily or even right before their breakthrough.
