Wow, what a deep question. Love is a many spendor thing. The dictionary says love is a strong affection or liking for someone or something. A passionate affection from one person to another. The object of such affection; a sweetheart or lover. Now take that and amplify if to your liking and then thats your love. Love is heart and soul with caring and compassion.

Answer

Perhaps the best place to start is to illustrate what love is not. Look around at the experiences of young people (and your own if applicable). High school is an especially bumpy field full of land mines for what is described as love. A starting point with a wealth of experiences that the parties involved called love but was a perfect storm of a tidal wave of hormones, followed by a tidal wave of media images and peer pressure, in a sea of the burgeoning independence from childhood, confusion of who am I and what am I doing here anyway. Romance and powerful attractions may lead to love, but they are not love.

Real love develops and grows; real love is more than how you feel about someone, love shows in what you do. Love is the sacrifice without thinking, doing things the hard way, the right way instead of the easy way. How parents teach their children, how children care for a parent when their parent has needs, Even love for people you don't know and your community and efforts you make that show that.

Love is not like a red, red rose. Love is like a blown transmission out on the highway, like your best friend throwing up on her prom dress, like the dog snatching a pork chop so you say nothing and don't have one yourself. That's how I define love.
