What kind of class should you pick on ddo?

If you're a beginner, (in my opinion) you might want to try the Cleric or Paladin first, since they wear heavy armor and they can heal. They're basically tanks (if you know what I mean). They don't generally do the most damage, though.

The class I've had the most fun with and that I recommend a lot is the Ranger class. They do lots of damage since they can attack with two weapons, and, at level 4, they're able to cast spells. They're also not too hard/complicated to play.

Bards are also my favorite, since they have some pretty useful combat spells, plus they can heal. Again, they don't do so so much damage.

You can also multi-class (for example, you can be part cleric and part ranger) which can be very effective, but multi-classing is generally much harder. I don't recommend that for beginners.

Sorcerers, wizards, and rogues are the hardest classes to play, since they don't have good defense and they can get hurt easily, yet these guys can do the most damage in the higher levels. Monks are on the harder side too, since their abilities/skills can be a bit complicated.
