That's my grandmother's maiden name and she's Irish. So I guess it's Irish.

I disagree. My father's family was Swiss and German. His last name was Minder also. Minder has no characteristics of an Irish last name unless it is derived from another spelling. Then again, many names were shortened or rewritten when people arrived here.

Earliest records of the proud and noble English surname of Minder are in Shropshire, where they had held a family seat as Lords of the Manor during the 13th century.
