your hand is the best way but it may sting your hand. you could use a paddle but it will cause the child more pain I would say your hand. It will not inflict pain on you. simply use your hand. I was spanking my neice, (with permission) and I gave her a choice, but then put her over my lap. I spanked her with my hand, and she starting crying really loud. I didn't hit her very hard, and the object of a spanking is just to show the child they did something wrong, not inflict much pain.

If I had kids, an open hand should do, because objects such as a belt, a cane, a paddle, a hairbrush or such, may cause bruises and thus take it practically to an ultimately abusive level. I don't even see why anyone should feel a need to use an object. Open hand and bare butt should hurt well enough and such a way is more likely to not only teach the lesson but also build a more genuine trust and bond between the parent and the child, than the parent hitting the child with an object. Because without an object it's just you and your child in a humane kind of situation and the child ought to be getting the point that you are the authority figure. No need for objects delievering any message.
