I am naturally a shy person, though had to come out of my shell when I became a therapist! I have used a pretty solid technique that is fool proof.
Keep asking questions. Not annoyingly, listen in between, and respond with short answers if you're nervous. Most people love to talk about themselves, and then when they leave you, they'll feel great in that you are a such nice person!
Humor always helps too - if there is a shared funny experience, use it!
