What to do if your father hates you?

Hating someone doesn't hurt them, it hurts you! Do you really hate him or are you just angry with him? You don't say how old you are, that makes it harder to answer your question. You also don't say why you hate him. If your father has done something you consider unfair perhaps you should talk it over with him, if he has mistreated you then you should be angry. Hate is a very strong word that is often misused when it comes to emotional issues. If you truly hate your father then the best you can do is to avoid situations that would cause even more harsh reactions from you. Be careful of what you say, as in "I hate you", you might find later on in life that you truly did not hate him and those words are very hard to take back, by then the damage is sometimes irreversible.

Well that is his choice and I doubt there is much you can do if that is how he feels but I don't think he truly hates you. Hate is a word we use very loosely today and it's rarely true. Ask him why and tell your mom. He shares parenthood with her and she should know and be aware how he and you feel. Not getting along is not uncommon, especially during the teen years, and adults are just people too and sometimes they take out their frustration on the wrong person. Try to see it as his problem and not yours. Tell him you miss how it used to be.
