If he does it often, and laughs awkwardly while you are, then he most likely does. Of course all guys are a bit different and there's no way to know for sure unless he tells you.

This is an awkward or shy boy's attempt to be around you, touch you, interact with you. Be careful he does not become too aggressive. He likes you and he does not know how to communicate that. He also may be just a really weird guy who wants to touch girls and this is the only way he knows how to do it. If he only playfights with you when you have skirt on or a short top on, but not when you are wearing a sweater or jeans, then he is just trying touch your bod.

There was a couple at my school that used to "playfight" a lot. But my gf said that the guy was just using that as an excuse to touch her. Once he even pulled her skirt completely off.

well honestly, it depends how he messes with you. usually boys do that when they like you, and they play games. If he annoys you then he is trying to get your attention. If he more plays around with you then he thinks of you as a friend or he likes you.
