Frollo was sent to hell thus freeing Esmeralda and the Gypsies from Frollo's witch hunt, and freeing Quasimodo from his 20 years of isolation from the outside world. Esmeralda fell in love with Captain Phoebus, and Quasimodo is happily accepted by the citizens of Paris.

Despite Quasimodo's deep love for her and his efforts to protect her, Esmeralda ultimately is executed, and Quasimodo is left heartbroken. Esmeralda gets hanged. Quasimodo is so distraught, he crawls up next to her corpse and dies of starvation next to her. Their skeletons are intertwined for a very long time, and then somebody tries to move his and it turns to dust.

He saves her life from the cruel priest who accuses her of being a witch and a murderess. Lon Chaney portrayed both the Hunchback and the Phantom. The Hunchback set was used for the Phantom of the Opera two years later, making Lon Chaney a superstar and a makeup artist legend The Man With the Thousand Faces. Gaston Leroux studied Victor Hugo's Hunchback of Notre Dame that he was inspired by the Beauty, Ugly and the Shunned. He created the Phantom of the Opera in 1909.
