While there have been quite a few men named "Ezra Warner" throughout history, the most prolific - and perhaps also the most mysterious - of these is Ezra J. Warner, who made his place in history by inventing the can opener ... some 50 years after canned food itself was invented.

But it's not the question of why the opener came so long after the can that makes Warner so mysterious. It's that very little bigraphical information exists about the man outside the same old story of his inventing and patenting the ubiquitous device. And so, answering this easily was, to be frank, out of the question.

Instead of looking to the usual science & history rags, I turned instead to a genealogical search and happened onto an article of information compiled (apparently) by one of Warner's decendants. According to this and the documents referenced therein, the inventor Ezra J. Warner was married to a woman named Sophia, and they had at least one daughter, Adalaide.
