Why do some parents keep their children home during the summer?

They do it for several reasons:

1. They don't trust "strangers" to take care of their children for them.

2. They miss their children when they're away from home.

3. Their children ask to stay home after trying summer camp - day and/or night - and they didn't like it.

4. Their children ask to do different things.

5. Their children may attend summer school because of bad grades.

Speaking as a Granddad to three Grandchildren, and from memory of helping my late wife to raising three children whilst I was in full time work, I have to say that: Circumstances are different from family to family. I remember as a child being taken out for day trips from my Liverpool home, and being bored for most of the time, as most of the summer school holiday seemed to drag on forever.

I think that most parents would welcome the short respite of packing their children off for a week or two, to a safely organized camp. But, not every parent can afford the expenditure. Indeed, not every parent can even realise that they must remove the cotton-wool they have wrapped their children in, and face the-fact that their child must one day face the world as it is!
