Calling someone ugly can hurt because it attacks their self-esteem and self-worth, often reinforcing negative feelings they may already have about themselves. Physical appearance is a sensitive topic for many, and such comments can evoke feelings of shame, rejection, and inadequacy. Additionally, societal standards of beauty can make individuals feel judged and marginalized, leading to emotional pain. Ultimately, hurtful words can have lasting impacts on a person's mental health and body image.

If a guy told my friend I was ugly, I'd feel very hurt, especially if I liked the guy. But, I'd also know how he honestly felt about me, and I wouldn't waste my time on him anymore. The thing about the word 'ugly' is that too many people use it as if they are tossing a ball around. People forget they are responsible for their words just as much as their actions. Words can hurt, especially during pre-teen and teenage years.
