Keevan believes he might be kept from impressing the dragon in "The Smallest Dragon Boy" due to his small stature and perceived lack of strength compared to other candidates. He fears that the dragon might choose a larger, more capable boy, leaving him without a chance to bond with a dragon. Despite his determination and desire to impress, he struggles with self-doubt and societal expectations surrounding the dragon-rider selection process.
Beterli wants Keevan to think that he's been removed from the candidacy.
The characters in "The Smallest Dragonboy" by Anne McCaffrey are Keevan, Aunt Beterli, Gardan, and the dragonriders of Pern. Keevan is overlooked because of his size but proves himself by impressing a small and weak dragon, becoming a dragonrider.
meow No the answer is NOT "meow", thankfully... The real answer is because the older boys, (Beterli) teased him and had a supposed announcement to tell him about. Plus, the night before the was a lot of talk about changing the age restictions and getting rid of the "babes". Hope this helped! :)
Keevan might think he could be kept from the impression due to various reasons such as his lack of experience in the field, competition from more qualified candidates, or a misunderstanding about the requirements of the position. It could also be related to doubts about his abilities or concerns about his performance during the interview process.

Keevan believes he might be kept away from the impression due to his perceived inadequacies and fears of failure. He worries that he doesn’t meet the expectations of those around him, leading him to doubt his abilities and worthiness. This self-doubt creates a barrier that makes him feel isolated and uncertain about his place in the situation. Ultimately, his insecurities prevent him from fully engaging and expressing himself.
I think it might but I'm not sure
I think you might be thinking of a Kamodo dragon??? maybe...
Heth saw into Keevans heart and knew that Keevan was a good, brave, and kind person. Keevan's small size and strength didn't matter because it only matters about what kind of person you are on the inside.
