I think the key to this problem lies with the previous 8 year relationship. There most definitely had to be some hurt there, so take it slow and easy and try to get her to talk about it. Some women/men are so badly hurt that no matter how well the new relationship is going they fear that it will only end up in disaster. Phone her up and go somewhere where you can talk privately. Don't corner her, and let her know you are there for her 100%. Yes she is confused and terrified that this relationship won't work either.
