I was in love with a sociopath and had a son with him. It has been 20 years since this relationship and it has profoundly changed my life. When we first met he was like nothing I had ever seen, he was passionate (I have since learned they are great lovers), he was everything that I wanted in a person. (able to mold into what they think we want) I thought he was the most sensitive man I had ever met because he could cry at a drop of a hat. We would talk for hours, he would cook and clean the house. Shortly after we started dating, he wrecked his car and moved in with me without my asking him. He just showed up with all of his belongings. (a sign of not being able to hold a job, unable to maintain relationships with is previous roommates, not understanding boundaries) Shortly thereafter I was evicted from my apt because he didn't care about playing the music too loud. (unable to follow rules) Our relationship was like a roller coaster, with extreme highs and lows. He was very controlling, manipulative, habitual liar, jealous and violent. He accused me of cheating with everyone, while he was the one cheating. (unable to have one relationship) I remember the first time I saw his jealousy. (very jealous) I was at the beach and saw someone I knew, he yanked my hair and pulled me into the car. He apologized and was very sweet and charming. (seems sincere in his apology but always repeats bad behavior) This was the beginning of a violent relationship. He could not hold a job and we ended up living in our car. He would not let me go to work, because he could not control me. He would even go on job interviews with me because he had to be with me at all times. (he would not let me out of his sight) I was very level headed and realized that I needed to get out of this relationship because it was not healthy, but not so fast. He was not about to let me leave him. I had restraining orders, I pressed charges, but he did not care. He purposely got me pregnant, thinking that I would not leave him. He was wrong, that gave me the strength to leave him. When he found another victim, he left me alone for a while, but not for long. I looked in my rearview mirror for years and many times he was following me. Before me and after me, he has a trail of victims starting from 15 years old. All of their stories are similar to mine. He will not change. Unfortunately, because we have a son together, he will always be a part of my life to some degree. He doesn't care about his child but uses that as an excuse to remain a part of my life. He is in jail now and it would be in everyone's best interest, including his future victims, if they never released him. But he always gets out, he is a master manipulator even convincing the criminal justice system that he is no threat - but trust me, he is and always will be.
