Probably without knowing it he used you. Somewhere along the line it became more about his issues that turned into a 'need'. He may feel he needs to get away from what reminds him of all the problems (he is not emotionally stable in the first place) and therefore has a new girlfriend in hopes he can forget the past emotional upsets. He doesn't know it, but he's carrying his ghosts with him. Hon, you did all the right things and nothing wrong. Highly emotional people have used people, lied to them, promised them things that they knew they would never hold a promise too. Perhaps it's not meant by him, but the hurt is still there. Consider yourself lucky you are rid of him. He drained you by loading you down with his problems AND YOU accepted this challenge and did the best you could. Learn from it and know you did the right thing, but keep moving on and DON'T go back to him no matter how much he pleads or threatens.
