The book and movie"The Lightning Thief" is fantasy because it is based on Greek Mythology and in movies mythology is considered to be fantasy because is can't happen. Usually myths are really far fetched and ancient so they seem to be fantasy even thought that is what people long ago used to believe in. If you ask me it would be action, adventure, or anything that just isn't fantasy, but i guess that was what the movie producers, directors, reviewers, and critics thought it should be!
