Written in 1843 by Charles Dicken it was created to highlight the levels of desperation of the victorian working class. With London so over crowded and 3 to 5 families living a a 3 bedroom house with no on site water, toilet or real cooking/washing facilities street strewn with human waste and child labour being the principle employment by those who in effect could afford adult labour. Dicken sets out to create his timeless work based on his own experience and those of people in the Camden Town areas of London especially those of the East End.
