Yes, some kites are so stable they can be left unattended, for example on a tent peg stuck in the ground or in a dog's mouth! If the dog drops the kite line the tension in the line is lost and the kite should drift to the ground, of course if you are unlucky it might fly away, but hey it's worth it for the photograph. I recommend a sled designed for a toddler.
