Tom seeks adventure--he comes up with the "stylish" plan, Huck agreeing that it is fifteen times better then his original plan, Huck plays along as Tom comes up with unnecessary prolonged rituals that he read in books, to Tom the escape is a game, to Huck its more of a personal one; he has grown close to Jim, you could argue he has become a father figure in a way to Huck, and he decides to help him become a free man--even if it means he'll go to hell for it. Tom like always is seeking adventure, and he turns the escape into a elaborate scheme when really Huck's initial plan was simple and less risky.

Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer are friends but who have different qualities and personalities in the novel "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain. Their exposure to their societal roles shaped their unique set of morals and values.
In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, the protagonist Huckleberry Finn travels on the river on his raft and comes to different places where he meets different characters. One of the characters that he has known before but meets later on is Tom Sawyer. Although they are good friends, Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer have different qualities. With the absence of his father, Huck has been taking care of himself most of the time. Although the Widow Douglas tries to take Huck in and teach him manners, Huck does not want to. Huck is more mature and is concerned about how actions will affect people. He knows morally what is right and wrong. When the duke and dauphin were impersonating the relatives of Peter Wilks to get money, Huck was very disturbed. In contrast, Tom has been brought up properly but plays pranks on people and forms a band of robbers to rob and kill people. He is less mature and does not understand morally what is right and wrong. Most pranks and cons to him are fun, despite their impact in reality.

Huck is also very conscience of the well-being of others. He tries to save the robber on the shipwreck who is going to be killed by the other two robbers. Also he considers Jim a friend instead of a runaway slave. He goes out of his way to make sure that Jim will not be discovered. He letsthe duke and dauphin stay on the raft to prevent them telling the authorities that Jim is a runaway. Tom has little concern for others. He plays harmful pranks on people just to amuse himself. He invests the Phelps house with rats because he insisted that Jim have a rat for a pet being a prisoner.

Due to the many books he has read, Tom is filled with imaginative schemes. He tries to imitate stories in his books. When rescuing Jim, Tom is very upset about the lack of obstacles. He then tries to create his own by insisting that they must saw Jim's chain off instead of just lifting up the bedpost that it is under. He feels that certain things are necessary for a good escape such as a rope ladder, a moat and a shirt where Jim can keep a journal. Huck who has seen many sides of human nature during his adventures, knows about reality. He does not understand Tom's need for creating obstacles in Jim's rescue. Huck and Tom are very different characters. They have had very different upbringings. Their place in society created them each a unique set of morals and values.
