This is Scout putting herself into Boo Radley's shoes. She's understanding life from his perspective and realizing that she and Jem and Dill did give something back to their neighbor. They gave him a life, a way to connect to others, even though it was from behind closed doors.
At the end of Chapter 4 in "To Kill a Mockingbird," Scout tells us that Boo Radley leaves small gifts for them in the knot-hole of a tree near the Radley house. This indicates that Boo Radley may not be the reclusive, scary figure that the children have imagined.
Nathan Radley tells Jem and Scout that he filled the knot-hole with cement because the tree was dying and he didn't want it to fall on someone. However, it is later revealed that he filled it to prevent gifts being left for the children by Boo Radley.

Boo Radley gave Jem and Scout small gifts in a knothole of a tree, including soap figurines carved to look like them. He also leaves a blanket for Scout during the fire at Miss Maudie's house. These gifts show his kindness and desire to build a connection with the children.
the laughing she heard from inside the house and atticus found out"Atticus's arrival was the second reason I wanted to quit the game. The first reason happened the day I rolled into the Radley front yard. Through all the head-shaking, quelling (trying to stop) of nausea and Jim yelling, I had heard another sound, so low I could not have heard it from the sidewalk. Someone inside the house was laughing."Scout is scared of the laughing she heard from the Radley house when she rolled in the tire, and Atticus was already suspicious that the children were acting out Boo's legend, or the "Boo Radley game."
The scout will be here tomorrow. Give out a shout when you scout him out.

Atticus.
In chapter 8 Atticus learns about Jem and Scout communicating with Boo Radley through the knothole. Atticus tells the children not to tell anyone that they had seen and been in contact with boo.
