Hyperbole in "Leaving Home", by David French Halfway through the first act, (on page 24 of the 2001 publication by The House of Anansi Press), Jacob tells his son Ben to dance with his mother, Mary, then makes the following hyperbolic comment about her former beauty, "...She'd turn the head of a statue. There wasn't a man from Bareneed to Bay Roberts didn't blink when she passed by."

This type of exaggeration is common to lower and working-class speech, especially amongst Newfoundlanders and other Canadian Maritime residents of Irish descent.
