Even though Mr. Raymond is one of their own, the white citizens of the town look down on him because he chooses to associate with blacks. It's not just that he's around them; I think they could deal with that. But he chooses to ignore the social norm, and the town can't deal with anything breaking the unspoken rules they've set up. He chooses to be different, and they simply can't handle it.

Dolphus Raymond understands that Dill is crying because Mr. Gilmer is being so condescending to Tom. While Dolphus does all he can to comfort Dill, he tells Dill that he (Dill) had better get used to it, because this is the way that whites treat blacks (and white who chose to associate with blacks). Dolphus doesn't have the optimistic outlook that Atticus and Miss Maudie seem to possess--that life and society can get better if people just learn that blacks are humans with feelings and rights just like whites.
Dolphus makes fun of Dill for being a crybaby that pees himself.
Mr. Dolphus Raymond was unusual in Maycomb because he was a wealthy white man who socialized with African Americans and was rumored to drink alcohol out of a paper bag. In reality, he was pretending to be a drunk to provide a cover for his defiance of racial norms in a deeply segregated society.
Dolphus Raymond is an interesting character in the novel "To Kill A Mockingbird". He is a person, who lives as an outsider of the white community. Although he is white, he has children with a black woman and that's why he is not respected from the white people in Maycomb. He pretends to drink, because it makes life easier for him. Nobody would talk to him and so he has no disputes on his way to live. His Alcoholism would give the other people an explanation why he lives the way he does. But in fact, the content of the paperbag is just a bottle Coca-Cola an the thinks that blacks and whites should be treated equaly. His black-coloured wife changed his attitude and now he is also able to live with blacks. In addition to that, Mr. Raymond prefers to socialize with blacks. All in All, Dolphus Raymond is a typical example of a mockingbird and shows that the whole community is ruled by prejudice. ~
The community shuns Dolphus Raymond in To Kill a Mockingbird because of his behavior and reputation for being a drunkard who lives with a black woman. He pretends to be drunk to avoid judgment and discrimination from others in Maycomb, allowing him to live as he wishes without interference from the community.
Dolphus Raymond, who has several mulatto children, drinks the pretend liquor to give the white people an explanation for his lifestyle. They believe he spends time with blacks because he's a drunkard, which is just what he wants them to think. In actuality he merely prefers black people to white.
He allows everyone to believe he is a drunk because he is in love with a black woman and living with blacks. The only way society can accept this is if they use his drinking to explain this "unacceptable behavior".
He is a character in To Kill a Mocking Bird.
Independent, eccentric, faithful, and just. He chooses to pretend to be drunk so Maycomb can have reason for his behaviors, but in reality he really does just prefer to live with the blacks instead of the hippocratic whites of Maycomb. This shows his indifference to race and his ability to see through someone and into their hearts.
they are mixed. in other words black and white.
That he is not actually a drunk, but rather acts like it so the town has an excuse of his lifestyle. When in reality, he just prefers blacks to whites.
