Perry was raised by his alcoholic mother after she left his abusive father. She died from alcohol related health problems when Perry was around 13. Two of his siblings commited suicide and a remaining sister broke all contact with him. It left him pretty much without a family. It sounds like there were some serious mental health issues at play with a majority of the immediate family.
