Well it really depends on what your "Strange room" looks like, but for example you could write something like this:
"He led me into a large, strange room, the floor was laminated to look like wood, the colour had gone a dark brown over time, showing that it hadn't been cleaned, there was a dark green dusty rug in the middle of the room. The dust flew in the air and made me sneeze. The walls were a dirty cream colour, mold covered it in one corner. There was only one window in the whole room, letting little light in. The window wasn't even double glazed and it had gone dirty round the edges. Stood against one wall was an old, wood rocking chair. It appeared to be the only thing in the room that hadn't been infected by the dirt..."
Well, you gt the idea. That was just my imagination, obviously your strange room would look different to mine so you could write it from your own imagination. Just imagine the room and pretend your describing it to a friend, only in much more detail than you normally would.
They are similar because they both tell you something. Descriptive writing describes--so it's going to tell you how something looks, how a person walks into the room, what that person is wearing, how she smells, the color of his eyes. Narrative writing is going to tell you WHY that person is here in this room. What's his purpose? What is he looking for? This is the story. Narrative writing tells you a story. Descriptive writing makes that story come alive in your senses.
