playing dead, like moshe the beadle
Moishe the Beadle was timid and quiet. Physically he looked skinny and slightly awkward. He looked like what most would call a "nerd".
The Jews of Sighet are first taken by the Germans to local ghettos after their arrival.
Moishe is a Jewish man living in Sighet. He is somewhat like a teacher to Elie, helping him to learn Kabbalah. He also returns to Sighet and warns the Jews of what is to come but they do not listen. He is like a prophet. I believe Elie began the story with him as a way to introduce religion, faith, and also to show that nobody listened when they were warned. His loss of faith sets a theme for the book.
Moshe the Beadle was a poor foreign Jew that lived humbly and worked all time in the town's synagogue. People from Sighet often helped him by giving his some money or food. Even though he was a "master" in the art of incognito, meaning that he was very good being "invisible" to people, nobody ever felt encumbered by his presence. Nobody ever felt embarrassed by him (pg. 1). The relationship of Moshe and Elie began one day at dusk that Elie was praying. Moshe asked Elie: "Why do you weep when you pray?" (pg. 2). Elie was like, well, why do I breath, why do I pray? It was like natural for Elie to weep while praying. Elie wanted a master to help him with his studies of the cabbala, but his father disagrees with the idea (pg. 1). He and Moshe wanted answers of questions they had about God; they were very into religion matters.
After being shot by cruel, evil and tyranical German gestapos S.O.B's. He had an epiphany. Left for dead he decided to return to his hometown, like a boss , and warn the Jews of the impending dangers. Tragically, nobody listened to him, and he resolved he no longer had friends:( he was later shot for refusing to return to the ghettos, smart man. Overall, it was out of complete loyalty.
Moshe the Beadle is described as a physically unassuming figure, often characterized by his thin, wiry frame and an air of quiet intensity. He has a deep, soulful gaze and is often depicted as having a somewhat disheveled appearance, reflective of his humble lifestyle as a poor Jew in Sighet. His demeanor is marked by a sense of urgency and a deep spiritual insight that sets him apart from others in the community.
The name Moshe is an Egyptian name, not a Hebrew name. But it sounds like the Hebrew verb mashá (משה), which means "to draw water out."

Honey, if you're talking about the character from "Night" by Elie Wiesel, then yes, Moishe Beadle did die. He survived being deported and tried to warn others about the horrors he witnessed, but no one believed him until it was too late. So, yeah, Moishe Beadle definitely kicked the bucket in that story.
