Once control was taken by Napoleon, he gradually set about securing pig autonomy over the other abnimals, feathered his own nest and set about vilifying Snowball and using him as a scapegoat. The seven commandments were gradually broken by the pigs and each time it was questioned, a new addition, or caveat, was seen to be tagged on. The animals assumed they had merely forgotten the full version of the original commandment. Each time a bad thing occured, then Snowball was blamed. Evrything successful or beneficial to the animals was explained as a result of 'Our Leader Comrade Napoleon's' leadership and cunning. In a parallel of totalitarian dictators, Napoleon started to decorate himself with spurious rewards, see Idi Amin. He started to rewrite history and engaged in whole rafts of disinformation. He sacrifices provisions and much of the profitable produce of the farm in order to trade with neighbouring farmers. The selling of Boxer to 'the knacker' is the very worst sign of corruption. The profits are used to purchase a case of whiskey for the pigs. The ultimate sacrilege is when the other animals see the pigs walking on hind legs and cannot separate them from their human counterparts. Orwell criticises and lampoons communist Russian hypocrisy in terms of inner party members having great benefits and being 'more equal' than other members of society. A damning enditement of totalitarian idealism gone wrong. Howevr, it is possible to trace the corruption and idea that absolute power corrupts absolutelt in many of the world's governments, irrespective of political persuasion.

As he becomes more authoritarian and corrupt, Napoleon betrays the principles of the revolution and becomes indistinguishable from the human oppressors he originally sought to overthrow.
