Anthony Horowitz was inspired to write by his childhood. He grew up in a rich family and had a miserable dull life with few friends. His father was always away on business trips which he never talked about, Horowitz tells in some interviews that the people his father was meeting was shadowy and secretive. He recalls that he once had to take a moneybag to one of his fathers contacts, he never knew why he had to do it or why he was getting the money. His mother always told horror stories to Horowitz, she was out a lot and saw new horrors in the cinemas and then retold the story to Anthony. He was a very lonely child and he spent most of his day in his fathers library reading his books. (He was also a huge fan of the James Bond movies) This inspired him to make stories of his own. Anthony wrote multiple children's books, but none of them became a success. He figured that children would like to read "children's fantasies" not a grownup's words, so he sat down and thought about his childhood and let it inspire him to write the Alex Rider series which was a huge success and made him a famous children's novel writer.

This Is What I've HeardOblivionThe last of The Power of Five has finally been completed, according to Anthony Horowitz. He Tweeted on the 19th February, Anthony tweeted "2.15am. 197,690 words. 57 chapters. I have finished Oblivion!" to signify his completion of the book. He also stated that he believes the book will be out in October 2012.[5]The first chapter reveals that Jamie ended up in St Boltoph's church in Boston, England. According to Anthony Horowitz, the final book is about the Old Ones attempting to destroy the world through global warming, and it deals with the Gatekeepers trying to find each other again after being separated in Necropolis. The book is therefore split into five different sections: Earth, Fire, Water, Ice and Air, relating to Matt, Pedro, Jamie, Scott and Scarlett, respectively. As the release date, October 2012, coincides with the theories concerning the 2012 phenomenon, many believed the phenomenon would play a role in the book. Horowitz confirmed on Twitter that it would not. On Amazon.co.uk Oblivion (Book Five of the Gatekeepers) is 928 pages long hardcover. Also it says the book is going to be released October 4, 2012.
