At Calpurnia's church they don't have enough money to let everyone have hymn books so Zeebo, Calpurnia's son, reads the hymns out loud and everybody repeats. Back then African Americans did not have a good education so Atticus let Calpurina borrow one of his books so that she could teach Zeebo how to read. This is important because Zeebo, who is an African American, can read, and Atticus, a white man, helped Calpurnia teach Zeebo how to read.
