Considering Dr Manette’s health both physically and mentally, he absolutely could not be left alone. He had just started recovering and would need Lucie by his side through all times. In chapter seventeen, book two of A Tale of Two Cities Dr Manette speaks about his life in prison for the first time without getting a panic attack. This shows that he is gradually recovering. And so, it was decided that they all would live together and that Miss Pross would be the one in charge of taking care of Dr Manette if Charles and Lucie had to go for an emergency.
Mr. Lorry shopped for the Manettes because they were afraid to go out in public in Paris in "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens. He did this to protect them and shield them from any potential danger.
