The first lesson learned in "Of Mice and Men" is that dreams and friendship form the heart of human existence. George and Lennie's shared dream of owning their own land demonstrates the power of hope and companionship in a harsh world.
The dog is not killed in the book Of Mice and Men. It is taken away to be shot by Carlson, but the actual shooting is not depicted in the novel.

Of Mice and Men
There is no reference to"of men and mice" in Mormon scripture. This does not mean that both words have not been used in, say a talk or a lesson to associate the difference between the two. Perhaps in the fact that men are those who fulfill their responsibilities, whereas mice are timid or shy of responsibility and so shirk it.
John Steinbeck, the author, wrote Of Mice and Men as a short story, not a book. It is a parable.
