Then Scout is squeezed and she realizes there are four people under the tree. The last thing she sees is a man carrying Jem home. The events that follow include Jem’s arm being broken—as if someone was trying to wring it off—and Heck Tate discovers Bob Ewell’s under the tree. Bob is dead and a kitchen knife is stuck up into his ribs.
