Atticus explains that someone must have dressed her in the dark, but Jem later confesses that Boo Radley had covered Scout with a blanket while she was standing outside the Radley house fire. Atticus appreciates Boo's kindness despite his reclusive nature.

The firemen were having trouble putting out the fire because the Miss Maudie's house was old and made of wood, which made it highly flammable. Additionally, the fire hose burst due to the high water pressure, causing further difficulty in containing the fire.

Atticus saves Miss Maudie's rocking chair from the fire in Chapter 8 of "To Kill a Mockingbird" when Miss Maudie's house catches fire and the neighbors help to salvage her belongings. Atticus carries the rocking chair to safety before it is destroyed by the flames.
