Tom and Becky go into McDougal's cave during a school picnic. They wander off exploring and end up getting lost inside the cave.

Tom decides that he doesn't need Becky's love with his new found glory. When she gets to school he ignores her, even though she tries to catch his attention. Instead, he goes to talk to Amy Lawrence, and Becky becomes jealous. She begins telling people near Tom about the picnic she's having during vacation, hoping Tom will listen. Everyone begs for invitations to the picnic. Tom, however, just leads Amy away. Becky continues talking until she can sneak away to cry. At recess, she ignores Tom and flirts with another boy, Alfred Temple, the fancy boy Tom beat up some time before. Tom sees this and gets very jealous. He angrily imagines beating Alfred again. He goes home at noon, unable to cope with his jealousy.
Tom Sawyer takes the blame when Becky accidently rips a page of the School Master's treasured book. Becky was mad and rude towards Tom at the time, so for him to take the whipping caused her to exclaim, "Tom, how could you be so noble!"
Tom starts to show off because he wants Becky to notice him. ( Tom fancies Becky).
Tom captures Becky's attention by showing off his knowledge of a dead cat's whisker as a remedy for warts. This unique piece of information intrigues Becky and causes her to take notice of Tom.
Becky gave Tom a yellow ticket in "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer".
