Alice never says what she'd like to be when she grows up in Lewis Carroll's Wonderland books, perhaps because they were written in a time when women and girls didn't expect to have a career, but just to marry and have children.

She does however, indicate an interest in moving up the social ladder during a conversation with the Duchess in Chapter 9 The Mock Turtle's Story:

`When I'm a Duchess,' she said to herself, (not in a very hopeful tone though), `I won't have any pepper in my kitchen at all.
