It is a "coined" word from the early 20th Century meaning anything thought to do with the future. Science-fiction is probably the best example of "futuristic," at least as literature & art. But the word has been used in the sense of "visionary" (Leonardo da Vinci was also a man of "futuristic" vision) and also in the sense of meaning ultra-modern in style or design...
"nxt" Is sometimes used to describe next generation or a substitute for futuristic. It could mean advanced wheels futuristic-looking.
There is certainly planing for the future but "futuristic" planning seems be more of a marketing phrase, "Futuristic" is usually taken to mean having or involving very modern technology or design.
