maycomb Alabama
Atticus Finch grew up in Maycomb, Alabama.
Atticus hopes to prevent Jem and Scout from catching the disease by living out the ideals of a non-racist way of life. In addition, he tells them that he'll answer any questions they have so that they don't hear things from the town. He also explains to them how unfair the disease is.

Atticus said, "No, we don't have mobs and that nonsense in Maycomb. I've never heard of a gang in Maycomb."
Finch's Landing. 20 miles away from Maycomb
Atticus Finch in Harper Lee's novel "To Kill a Mockingbird" said this line. He is expressing his concern for his children, Jem and Scout, as they navigate the challenges and prejudices of their town, Maycomb. He hopes that they can maintain their innocence and integrity despite the negative influences around them.
The Children finds Atticus in front of the maycomb jail.
I don't think this is the right question becacause the jury that made the decision was not from Maycomb. They were from Old Sarum. But I believe that Atticus was glad because the jury took al ong time to come to a decision on the final saying of the trial. He thinks that Maycomb is going to change, but is going to take sometime. Atticus thinks that people just don't understand things. He thinks that Maycomb people judge too quickly.
You learn that atticus was not such a bad person also he was a humerous person an his family was weird...
Maycomb's usual disease is racism. The kids don't know yet weather to be racist or not, and they don't really understand it either. Atticus is trying to raise them against the usual "disease" of the county so they can grow up better people.
