What is Marley's fate?

In the book, A Christmas Carol, Jacob Marley is Ebenezer Scrooge's business partner. Scrooge encounters Marley's ghost and learns that ever since he died, he has been forced to wear a gigantic chain forged from the misery that he caused others.

Jacob Marley was given a unique opportunity that I imagine that the other spirits of the damned were not given. For some reason the spiritual universe decided it was going to interfere in the miserable life of Scrooge. Marley explained that the spirits of the damned try to interfere for good in the lives of Man but always fail. But for some reason the universe began to work differently. Marley was given his chance to interfere.
Due to this it is quite possible that Marley redeemed himself and may have gained a much more agreeable existence in the afterlife. But I have my doubts. Readers of Dickens know that he was a moralist. Punishment and reward were alotted fairly at the end of all his books. Even the woman Nancy was killed in Oliver Twist despite her kindness to Oliver because she was cohabitating with Sikes and is hinted to be a prostitute. Immorality, in Dickens' universe, is always punished.
So if Nancy cannot redeem herself why should Marley be able to? If Marley is redeemed it will be uncharacteristic of Dickens' standards of fairness. Unless of course you acknowledge the misogynistic attitude Dickens' had toward women then it is possible that Marley could get away with more.
In the end I suppose it is up to the readers interpretation.

In Charles Dickens' novel "A Christmas Carol," Jacob Marley is doomed to wander the earth as a ghostly spirit, burdened by heavy chains. He is condemned to witness the suffering he ignored in life and is unable to find peace until he makes amends for his selfish and miserly ways.
