"Wise Bllod" by Flannery O'Conner te3lls the story of a returning World War II vet who falls in with shady evangelists. Motes, who has always had trouble understanding and believing salvation and the original sin, is attracted to the con artists, especially, Lily, with whom he forms a sexual attachment. The story ends when a freak accident leaves Motes in serious condition. He dies and his body ends up at the home of a deranged woman who proceeds to care for his corpse as if it was alive.
