You have to write about something that is interesting to you, or you won't be able to finish the thing. What historical time period are you interested enough to research?

You will need to do enough research so that you can describe every aspect of the era - clothing, culture, swear words, politics, common problems - everything!

If you don't already love the historical time period, you won't do the work, and you won't write the story.

Whatever period is most interesting to you! If you're going to write a historical novel, you're going to be doing a lot of research, and if you're not interested in the period, you're not going to finish the research and the novel because it'll get to be too much work for you.

Any idea that is interesting enough to you will be a good idea. You cannot write a story or novel based on ideas that someone else invents - you won't be interested enough in the subject to be able to research and write anything that will actually sell. Plus, anonymous people on the internet have no idea how old you are, what your interests are, or how well you can write!

In order to write, you need a personal connection to the subject. Write about whatever you enjoy, or whatever you find interesting, and you will end up with your novel or story.
