Friar Lawrence is sympathetic towards Juliet and helps her because he wishes to end the feud between the Capulets and Montagues. He also sees her as a victim of circumstances and is willing to take risks to help her reunite with Romeo.

In Romeo and Juliet Friar Lawrence goes to the Capulet's mausoleum to get Juliet when Friar John comes back saying that he could not get the message to Romeo because he had been helping people with the plague and the people of Mantua would not let him in. So Lawrence goes to the tomb so he can at least be there when she wakes up and hide Juliet with the nuns for a while before they can have Romeo come and retrieve her. Of course though Balthasar tells Romeo that Juliet is "dead" and he goes to die with her.
Friar Lawrence plans to inform Romeo of Juliet's false death and prevent him from committing suicide. He also hopes to reunite the young lovers and reveal the truth about their relationship to end the feud between their families.
Juliet and the nurse were very close. she knew juliet and romeo were in love and she helped arange juliet and romeo's wedding with friar lawrence (priest who married them). after the nurse tells juliet to marry paris, juliet gets angry at the nurse for betraying her, and promises to never be close to her again. she then goes to frair lawrence to see if he could get her out of marrying paris, and he hands her the poison to put her in a coma.
Friar Lawrence told Juliet that she should take the sleeping pills he gives her, then she will be carried to her bedroom. When the nurse finds her, she will think she is dead because she is so asleep. Then she will be carried to a mortuary. Word will be sent to Romeo that she is pretending she is dead and which mortuary. Everything works except the word about Juliet does not get through. So when Romeo finds of Juliet's death, he goes to the mortuary. Thinking she is dead, he kills himself on the sleeping pills that Juliet has taken. After that, Juliet awakens, and, finding Romeo dead, kills herself with his dagger.
Juliet taking the potion provided by Friar Lawrence results in her appearing dead, causing distress among her loved ones. It is not an effect of her taking the potion that it causes her to physically harm herself or others.
Friar Lawrence gathers herbs for their healing and medicinal properties. He believes in the power of the natural world to create remedies for physical and spiritual ailments.
Friar Laurence hopes that if he marries Romeo and Juliet that the feud with their families with end. Little did he know that will not happen until they are no longer living.
