An illness narrative is a story or self-described journey that sufferers of a chronic disease tell that involves the beginning of their illness and how they are currently dealing with it. It flows like a story and can be beneficial and enlightening to medical professionals. Interest in the study of illness narratives has been growing since the early 1980s, and it is currently an important topic in anthropology and sociology of health and illness.
